DESCRIPTION:Location: Lowville Free Library\NClick here to register -->  Lewis County Suicide Bereavement Support Group\NWhen someone loses a loved one by suicide, it can take an extended period of time to recover from this loss. The way in which someone heals from this can take many different forms and periods of time. Many people experience a large range of strong emotions that can be hard to cope with all by themselves. Even when people do receive support and comfort from family and close friends, they may not know how to best support and comfort the person experiencing the loss. This can lead to the person experiencing the loss to feel just as alone or lost as before. It can be very hard to find others who truly understand what you are going through.\NBereavement is the state of intense grief or mourning after the loss of a loved one. Although some may believe this is a temporary, short-term state of being, this grief can lead to people feeling as though they will never feel happy or normal ever again. This is why it’s so important for suicide loss survivors to receive the support they need from people who truly understand what they are going through.\NBy participating in a support group, suicide loss survivors will be able to hear other’s stories and share their own as well. Meeting in this way makes it possible for them to feel less lost or misunderstood, and just as importantly, shows them that healing is possible. In addition to this, people receive much needed validation that the grieving process is long, difficult, and different for each person.\NThis is an open group, meaning you can join at any time. It is okay if there were meetings in the past you didn't attend.\N*This is a support group, not therapy. We do not diagnose or treat anyone. *\N*If at any point the facilitators believe that you are not fit for the group or need additional resources, they will suggest what they think is best for you. We have to do what is best for the group as a whole.*\NFor additional information, please visit our Suicide Bereavement Support group page: Lewis County Suicide Prevention Coalition - Suicide Bereavement Support Group

DESCRIPTION:Gizmo’s Pawesome Guide to Mental Health Guide (Copyright © 2017 All rights reserved.) takes an upstream approach to support the mental health and wellness of youth.  It is data-driven and evidence-informed. The Guide seeks to introduce mental health and wellness, and how to care for one’s mental health in a nonthreatening way that encourages the self-identification of warning signs and when to apply the use of internal and external healthy coping strategies to help reduce risk.  It introduces the characteristics of trusted adults, who may be one, how to practice talking with a trusted adult, and promotes proactive communication. It gives youth the opportunity to create a personal mental health plan (of action) that they can use daily, and in a time of need that can help them avert crisis.\NThis is a free read-along for children ages 5-10 and their trusted adults.
