When someone loses a loved one by suicide, it can take an extended period of time to recover from this loss. The way in which someone heals from this can take many different forms and periods of time. Many people experience a large range of strong emotions that can be hard to cope with all by themselves. Even when people do receive support and comfort from family and close friends, they may not know how to best support and comfort the person experiencing the loss. This can lead to the person experiencing the loss to feel just as alone or lost as before. It can be very hard to find others who truly understand what you are going through.
Bereavement is the state of intense grief or mourning after the loss of a loved one. Although some may believe this is a temporary, short-term state of being, this grief can lead to people feeling as though they will never feel happy or normal ever again. This is why it’s so important for suicide loss survivors to receive the support they need from people who truly understand what they are going through.
By participating in a support group, suicide loss survivors will be able to hear other’s stories and share their own as well. Meeting in this way makes it possible for them to feel less lost or misunderstood, and just as importantly, shows them that healing is possible. In addition to this, people receive much needed validation that the grieving process is long, difficult, and different for each person.
This is an open group, meaning you can join at any time. It is okay if there were meetings in the past you didn't attend.
*This is a support group, not therapy. We do not diagnose or treat anyone. *
*If at any point the facilitators believe that you are not fit for the group or need additional resources, they will suggest what they think is best for you. We have to do what is best for the group as a whole.*
